Oregon PERS
What Is PERS?
The Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) is the retirement and disability fund for public employees throughout Oregon. Established in 1946, employees of the state, school districts, and local governments are eligible for coverage. PERS is a two-part pension plan that generally provides most members a formula-based lifetime income benefit.

Individual Account Program (IAP)
The Individual Account Program is an account-based benefit for all Tier 1, Tier 2, and OPSRP state employees who have been working in a qualifying position since 1/1/2004. Your income level will determine the percentage of your salary you contribute into this second part of the PERS pension system. Your account balanced is determined, in part, by the performance of an age-based investment option.
At retirement, the IAP program offers several different income and access options. Please schedule a consultation prior to completing your PERS retirement paperwork. We will happily review all the available options with you to help you make the best decisions you can make for your personal circumstances.

Contemplating Retirement? Be Sure to Get your Benefit Estimate
PERS will provide two free written pension estimates per calendar year. To receive a formal written estimate, PERS will only consider retirement dates within the upcoming 24 months. For estimates outside of 24 months, please access your online member account on the PERS website to estimate your monthly benefit. Contact the office for assistance in completing an online benefit estimate.

PERS Information Release Authorization
Through the information release authorization, PERS allows its members the opportunity to authorize third parties for obtaining information about their accounts and benefits. In other words, this form enables Foster & Associates to communicate directly with PERS on your behalf. Communicating directly with PERS is another level of service Foster & Associates provides to our clients.
